2021-2023 Slate

(listed alphabetically by last name)

Dana Angel

I have two children: one is going into middle next year and one will be in 2nd. I am currently the PTA president at Stokesdale and have served on the Board for four years. I spent three years on Stokesdale's School Leadership Team.  I have also focused on Character Education every year in my children's classrooms.  I am experienced in many aspects of school based volunteering and special events.  In additional to volunteering, I enjoy substitute teaching!  In my spare time, I enjoy being at the beach or out on the water in our family's boat.  I look forward to contributing to Northwest Guilford Middle School soon!

Lauren Bankston

My name is Lauren Bankston and I am writing regarding my interest in being on the leadership team. My family and I moved to Oak Ridge roughly three years ago. My son, Aiden is currently in 6th grade at Northwest Middle School, Grace is in 4th grade and Charlotte is in 1st grade.

Last year I was on the 5th grade graduation committee, unfortunately there wasn't much we were able to do due to the pandemic. I was also Ms. Boggess's class parent and co-class parent for kindergarten. Currently, I am a preschool teacher at Mt. Pisgah Weekday School.

Prior to moving to North Carolina, the following are highlights of my local involvement experience:

  • Held key Board of Director position at a local private nursery school in Rockaway, New Jersey

  • Dennis B. O’Brien (DBO) PTA Corresponding secretary located in Rockaway, New Jersey

  • Chair of the yearbook at DBO

  • Girl Scout Leader for Daisy Troop at DBO – 3 years

  • Teacher assistant at local private nursery school in Rockaway, New Jersey

I would like to represent the parent perspective because I believe my diverse past employment and career experience coupled with my personal experience being a parent with three kids in the Guilford County school system will allow me to view many issues from various viewpoints.  I have a passion for bettering the future of our communities by donating my time to support local events and organizations. I have a tremendous love for children and place a high standard on both learning and activities that support personal growth and development.

Shay Barwick

My name is Shay Barwick.  I grew up in Boone, NC and then attended both NC State and UNC-CH resulting in a master’s degree in physical therapy. I am married to Josh Barwick and we have 3 children; a 6th grader at NWMS, a 3rd grader at ORE, and a preschooler preparing for kindergarten in August. We’ve lived in Summerfield for 7 years now. We are active in our community through Oak Ridge United Methodist Church and through sports within the Oak Ridge Youth Association. I have served on numerous committees at our present and past churches and on preschool committee.  I have volunteered through GCS in the classroom and through PTO at Oak Ridge Elementary as well. If given the opportunity, I would be happy to serve as a parent representative for the NWMS leadership committee, to share all ideas and opinions I have as well as those I gather from other parents.

Lindsey Brady

My name is Lindsey Brady and our oldest son Jackson Brady is a rising 6th grader at Northwest.  He is currently in 5th grade at Oak Ridge Elementary School. I've been an active volunteer at Oak Ridge Elementary since Jackson was in kindergarten - from helping in the workroom hours each week to providing tutoring services.  I would love to be able to serve at NW Middle and help make a difference in our amazing school!

Brian Cox

I am interested in serving on the Leadership Committee as I have two children currently in middle school, grades 6 and 7.  I am a native of Greensboro and attended a rival middle school, Guilford Middle.  My wife served on the hospitality committee at Oak Ridge Elementary during our kids elementary years and has inspired me to be more involved in the future of not only my kids but all those that are served by NW Middle School.  I feel that I can provide a unique perspective to this Committee to enhance the experience of our middle school students.  Thanks for your consideration.

Jeanie Reynolds

I am Jeanie Reynolds, my daughter is a 6th grader at NWGMS. I am the Director of English Education at UNCG, and I am committed to working together to make our schools the best they can be. I served on the PTA at the elementary school level, I served for 2 years as the School Improvement Team volunteer, and I know that schools need parents to be active participants both in and outside of the school building. I have a vested interest in NWGMS because my daughter attends, but also I have a 4th grade son who will be there as well. I believe I would be an asset to the School Leadership Team.
